bottom-up architecture + urban change

I'm currently working on my Master's thesis in Architecture at Aalto University, Helsinki. My work focuses on designing for those without a voice in Phnom Penh. This is a collection of tidbits I come across during my research and trip to Cambodia.
Two Mexican architecture offices bonded together to form the non-profit organization Adobe for Women, which works to empower disadvantaged women as well as recover and teach vernacular construction skills. The women taking part in the program have thus far produced over 40 000 adobe clay bricks, of which they will build houses for themselves. Eight projects are already underway. The cost of each house will be just 3830 euros. Click on the picture for more photos and info.
